The first stage of HS2 runs from Euston station in London to Birmingham. The route runs right through Wendover – see new map (as of 10 Jan 2012).
The Government has announced some changes to the original alignment, which would mean that more of the route through Wendover would be in tunnel. We welcome the Government’s decision to place part of the Wendover section of route in tunnel rather than on an embankment.
However, the line would still enter Wendover on a high viaduct, which will permanently disfigure the protected Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the approach to Wendover and project train noise across the village centre and the rest of the parish.
Despite the changes proposed at Wendover and around Amersham, the route still cuts through the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, a nationally-important landscape protected by an Act of Parliament.
